- What is Bandwidth?
-
Bandwidth is an expression of the amount of data that can uploaded or download over a digital connection. To compute a
bandwidth requirement you multiply the size of the file by the number of users downloading the file and the required
throughput speed of the file. Most video files will compress to about one megabyte of data for each minute of video.
- What Is server space?
-
Internet based servers are just like your home or office computer. They have finite limitations on the number and total
size of the files stored on the hard drives. Server drives are normally much larger and faster than those found on typical home or
office machines.
- May I stream my own programs?
-
Yes, but you must first be hosted on a server dedicated to streaming.
- How does bandwidth and server space affect me?
-
Webhost vendors charge for their services based upon the amount of disc space used and bandwidth allowed. File size usually
isn't a problem with most vendors, as most of their customers don't use more than 25 megabytes of disc space for their
sites. In fact, most clients have enough space alloted that they may host several Video On Demand files. Most webhosts
have low bandwidth thresholds that are quickly exceeded if your VOD files are accessed continuously.
- So I can stream from my current server if I have enough space?
-
Probably not. The server generally has to be dedicated to streaming.
- What Do I Need To Send A Stream
-
Four things; 1) An Internet connection capable of upload speeds at or above 225 KBS, 2) a personal computer operating
with a MS Windows® operating system, 3) a digital camera connected to the computer, 4) someone to operate the
camera and monitor the upload process.
When your your account is ready we will assign you a digital 'channel' to receive your signal. All you have to do is use the simple control panel to connect to the channel and tell the system to take your 'live' signal or upload a pre-recorded video and cue the starting time(s).
- May I Use More Than One Camera?
-
Yes, but the required equipment increases, as well as the amount of people to run the production.
- Does A Multiple Camera Feed Increase My Fee?
-
No. We are only concerned with the signal that leaves your computer enroute to our server. Whatever you do to generate
that signal is up to the content producer.
- My 'show' has several people that need to speak. What do I do about all of those microphones?
-
That's a technical production issue solved in several ways. We can help you determine the best method. Remember, YOU
are the content producer and we are the technical team behind you.
- It sounds too complicated. Can I get help?
-
For most one time events it may be best just to hire a small production crew to handle the details for you. StreamNet's
parent company, Big V Productions, can assist you in many ways. We can provide the equipment and crew for a small one
camera event all the way to six and eight camera events.
- That sounds expensive. Is it?
-
Production costs increase almost exponentially with the number of crew required and complexity of the coverage. We have created
StreamNET in order to serve smaller firms, groups, and individuals. This access capability is just one of our
products. Pre and post production services, on air production, and consulting fill in the gaps.
